When, in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bonds which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive to these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government (system), and to provide new guards for their future security.

We, being trades-men in an era when the quality and work ethic of the trades has been undermined and obscured by the greed of developers, government and speculators, believe that the integrity of the trades is still within reach for those who will strive to lay hold of it. Thou, that the demand for volume, depressing standards in order to cut costs and the low balling of workers has become the corner stone of todays construction industry, now more than ever do standards of substantive skill and a living wage for the working class demand to be sought after. We believe that all workers in the construction trades deserve, by virtue of their labor, wages which secure a just, fair and empowering economic potential. The strength of the working class is the stability of a prosperous society. The capacity to achieve and excel in the implements of sound design and craft is an opportunity whose labor goes unrewarded in a corporate culture of greed. Whose methods of greed hold no depth to employ lasting prosperity. Thus the God given equality of men goes unrealized. And the virtue of “empathy for ones fellow citizens” is a forgotten reason by means of institutional selfishness and its damage. If American society can not afford to fairly employee its labor and skilled trades, then this eras legacy will be well earned. Soiled, no doubt, in its own dysfunction. If just and upwardly mobile earnings are the right of all people, American, Latin American, Chinese, Arab, African, in fact all peoples, then certainly such absolutes do not go with out provision. Certainly the earth is full of provision, of which we need only incorporate the function of its fullness. Point being that in all of the God given and purposed provision of resources which is in all things, people should not ever need to cause others to “go with out” for ones own gain. Not only are men and women due the wages for which they have labored, the opportunity to prosper by the work of their own hands should not be an idealistic notion but should be the natural consequence of their own determination.

Upwards Custom Construction is not the best renovation, restoration, addition and remodel company in town but our labor, skill and liability is no less able. We are determined to exact our abilities in a manner which is thoughtful and purposeful in accomplishing the quality and sound integrity which the trades of our employment offer. We believe that this is of value, of which commodity is not lacking substance. So that the cost of our work should not be disregarded.

Construction, design challenges and craftsmanship come at a price. The less that this cost is neglected, the more that the benefits of the trades can realize the potential to which they are intended. Building into the community and individual lives the substantive equity and financial stability which is for the benefit of society for years to come. To often does society and us as individuals suffer the stress of dysfunction and failing structures which ultimate cost more to manage. The cost of managing dysfunction and unsound methods is always a grave excess to what might have been invested in fairness from the onset. What might seem to be the steep price of quality is ultimately money well spent in the totality of a project. Its return will be realized over and over through out the course of a job and long after the job is done. Projects that fall short of this truly cost too much when all is said and done. Satisfaction can not be fooled.
